Toro Y Moi - Say That

Toro Y Moi is a young American guy making laid-back electronic music. hEre´s Say That from Anything in Return.

Ariel Pink´s Haunted Graffiti - Only in My Dream

I have no idea who these people are but I think this song is quite lovely.

The Impossible (80%)

Have to give the cast and crew credit for making this tragic disaster come to life so vividly on the screen with all the terror and sadness that these people must have felt.

Below is an interesting interview with Naomi Watts on making the movie.

Best of my adolescence (90s rock)

These are my favorites from that blooming era in rock history which coincided with a typically awkward adolescence.

10. Nirvana - Breed (hvar ætli strákurinn á umslaginu sé í dag?)

09. Green Day - Geek Stink Breath (I loved the crispy sound on that album Insomniac)

08. Pearl Jam - Rearviewmirror (from my favorite Pearl Jam album)

07. Live - I Alone (þetta hefur maður nú gólað oft í bílnum með ilmandi ferskt ökuskírteini)

06. Metallica - Enter Sandman (killer opening track from the black album)

05. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss (Before I had ever sucked a kiss)

04. The Offspring - Self Esteem (bergmálun af unglingaveiki)

03. Guns N´ Roses - Civil War (because Paradise City is from the 80s. But this is an epic song though)

02. Weezer - El Scorcho (Pretty much sums up the awkwardness of teenage love)

1. Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name (is there a better way to describe adolescence than in the words "fuck you I won´t do what you tell me"?

Melody´s Echo Chamber - Bisou Magique

Breezy nocturnal beats from Paris in the form of Melody´s Echo Chamber.

The Walkmen - Heaven

The Walkmen are producing some of the most solid indie rock out there. They have this raw dusty sound which slowly seeps into your consciousness. This is Heaven from last years album by the same name.

Money

Whenever I have money I think to myself: Having money is good and money is quite useful.

Whenever I don´t have money I think to myself: Money is not important. The best things in life can not be bought.

So I never have any money problems. Yay.

Crystal Castles - Plague

Awesome electric rock lullaby from Canadian duo Crystal Castles.

Oh yeah

Old school fun with Foxygen from We are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic.

The horror prescription

If you are looking for a crash course in horror films this is my prescription. Just prepare a bowl of popcorn, something to wash it down with, some anti-anxiety pills, turn off the lights and you will be fine. Maybe.

What

I have found it extremely useful when confronted with difficulties in life to think to myself: What would Jesus do?

60% of the time it works all the time.

Heartthrob

The new Tegan and Sara album makes me wanna be an 18 year old girl with a broken heart.

I just beat up my wife. Well, it´s like they say: All is Fair in Love and War

Who came up with the sick idiom "All is Fair in Love and War"? Must have been one ruthless psychopath.

Ego Tripping

From The Flaming Lips song. What a great album. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

Cloud Atlas (90%)

Running at almost 3 hours it was amazing how this film completely swept me away. Some movies somehow manage to transcend being just a movie and become an experience. For me, Cloud Atlas is precisely that kind of movie. A beautiful and inspiring philosophical action movie. Possibly the best of 2012.

Johnny Depp - Five Favorites

Tim Burton - Five Favorites

These are my favorite Tim Burton films.

Dark Shadows (75%)

"Indeed". A wicked comedy that I found very entartaining even though it is not as emotionally gripping as some of Burton´s best.

Soulsavers

Here´s Dave Gahan and his mates in Soulsavers from last year´s The Light The Dead Sea. Perfect for some Tuesday afternoon soul searching.

The Details (80%)

This is basically Tobey Maguire taking his stereotype good guy and having a vicious go at it with a baseball bat. And that is a show worth seeing.

The Family Guy remedy

Got a bout of that Sunday afternoon heaviness? How about a dose of Family Guy to get your spirits up?

Works for: Boredom, brooding, suicidal thoughts, depression

Some common side effects: Uncontrollable laughing fits, soiling yourself, drooling, spitting.

Do not take while breastfeeding.

The Mars Volta remedy

The Mars Volta. Those geniuses. They make the kind of music that you can either listen to on full blast or just forget about it. Great when doing housework. Makes you clean that filthy toilet with increased zeal.

Works for: Housework, apeing out, insane dancing, trashing apartments.

Take twice daily with plenty of water.

Not suitable for persons with heart conditions.

Kristina Train

This girl has an album out called Dark Black. Readily digestible smooth and moody pop music is her game. Just check out the title song from her new album and a great cover of No One´s Gonna Love You (still can´t beat the original by Band of Horses).

Touch of the Third Man

Sometimes if one wants to see a good murder mystery one has to dig up a couple of old dinosaurs. Both of these movies feature Orson Welles playing shady characters and both are nicely atmospheric and suspenseful. Can´t go wrong with these ancient relics of movie history.

Jim James

Jim James has got one of the most amazing voice in music today. He´s got an album out called Regions of Light and Sound of God. Exciting stuff.

Arbitrage (85%)

I enjoyed this movie. Its a nicely done and gripping morality tale that is especially relevant in light of today´s discussion of irresponsible bankers and CEOs and how they seem to get away with "murder". Highly recommended.

I lost my game of erotic bingo.

Speaking of bingo Check out Torso of the Week by sweater wearing Englishmen Everything Everything.

Beta Love

Now we´re getting closer.

Ra Ra Riot. Beta Love.

The Master (70%)

For me Juaquin Phoenix´s performance turns out to be more mesmerizing then the film´s story.

Monday, February 4, 2013

Lincoln (80%)

If only for a grand history lesson and another amazing performance by Day Lewis, Lincoln is worth the watch.

One of the things I learned from this movie is that Lincoln was one cool cat.

Boys are going solo

Who needs System of a Down and Grandaddy when Serj Tankian and Jason Lytle are cooking this stuff up on their own?

Ho-ing and hey-ing with The Lumineers

A little bit of ho-ing and hey-ing never hurt anyone. The Lumineers seem to agree with me on that one.

Colonel Sanders´s nightmare

Epic scene from probably the worst date movie ever.
