Favorite debut albums

Two of my all-time favorite bands (Radiohead & Muse) started off in a rather forgettable way (although both debuts spawned hugely popular singles in Muscle Museum and Creep). So I am very excited to see where my list of my favorite debut albums takes me.

Check out my spotify playlist with tracks from my 10 favorite debut albums.

When two icebergs make a fire (Ísjaki)

The new Sigur-Rós anthem is out. It is called Iceberg. It´s filled with themes of ice and fire as is appropriate for a band originating from the country of fire and ice.

Oh Yeah

The Biotech revolution (documentary)

Well, if humans in the future will all be cloned and "perfect" I guess there will be no more bullying.

This is a great documentary on the amazing developments in biotechnology and all the sci-fi-like possibilities it entails.

10 recent albums to sink your teeth into

10 albums that have dazzled recently.

Kristina Train - Dark Black (2012)

Adult pop steaming with melancholy and beauty. Featuring a great cover of the Band of Horses No One´s Gonna Love You.

Foxygen - We are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Light and Magic (2013)

Duo Foxygen are like two little boys in a sandbox playfully tossing classic rock influences at each other. It´s infectious fun.

Atoms For Peace - AMOK (2013)

Thom Yorke´s side project. I rest my case.

Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, M.A.A.D City (2012)

The reason I´m into hip hop again

Beth Orton - Sugaring Season (2012)
Stunningly beautiful chill-out music

Phosphorescent - Muchacho (2013)

My most recent musical exploration. Still taking it in. Is this guy taking country into the 21st century? Still working on the answer.

The Spinto Band - Cool Cocoon (2013)
The Spinto Band are masters of making songs you feel like you heard somewhere before when actually you have not.

Youth Lagoon - Wondrous Bughouse (2013)

This is wondreous all right.

Foals - Holy Fire (2013)

Solid british indie rock if you are so inclined

Gorgeous indie rock from California.

Caveman

Caveman is an indie rock band from New York. They just released their second album and it sounds mighty fine.

Oblivion

Sci-fi movie Oblivion is coming soon where we will see Tom Cruise in a space suit wander around Icelandic landscapes. I don´t have high expectations, these kinds of films usually disappoint. However, its encouraging that French electro-band M83 do the soundtrack. And here is the title track.

m.A.A.d city

Epic Kendrick!

Song for Zula

My first encounter with Phosphorescent is a pleasant one. Great song.

True story..sort of

Here are 10 great must-see movies "based on real events".

Hotel Rwanda (2004)
The Rwandan genocide.

Schindler´s List (1993)
The Holocaust.

The Elephant Man (1980)
David Lynch directed this one in an unusually straighforward manner considering his CV. Instead of disturbing mind-fuck of the likes of Eraserhead and Lost Highway he infused this one with gentleness and a celebration of human relationships and human nature.

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

Tom Cruise gives an unforgettable performance as an eager young man who has his dreams shattered by a senseless war, ultimately finding courage and redemption fighting against the war.

You Don´t Know Jack (2010)
The story of assisted-suicide activist, Dr. Jack Kevorkian.

The Insider (1999)
Al Pacino and Russell Crowe fighting the tobacco industry and Michael Mann makes sure everything looks cool. Purely legendary.

The Pianist (2002)
Roman Polanski´s version of The Holocaust.

The Last King of Scotland (2006)
Ugandan boogie.

Into the Wild (2007)

The story of Christopher McCandless.

JFK (1991)
Kevin Costner scratching his head for 3 hours over the JFK assassination.

Chelsea Wolfe

Dark and spooky from Californian Chelsea Wolfe

Judge, Jury & Executioner

A must-hear from Thom Yorke´s newest project.

Youth Lagoon

I have been listening to this one-man band from Idaho and finding it quite engaging. This guy follows in the footsteps of The Flaming Lips, earnestly exploring dramatic and dreamy soundscapes by blending pop and psychedelia.

Bring it on

It´s not difficult to picture the North-Korean supreme leader getting down to this song. Bring da mother#%# ruckus.

State of the Art

Great opening track from Jim James´s Regions of Light and Sound of God
